Bat boxes and tubes at Wilson Reserve 12 November 2016

Windy and overcast, but we went ahead anyway and, as usual, in the woodland all was calm. We had some new recruits this month in April Sinclair, Colin Panisset and daughter Sasha and Tessa Koumoundouros.

Only 6 male bats were in the boxes, plus a dead one, and one live, one dead Gould’s in the Burke Rd tubes.

All the males were already banded.

Danielle and Melissa examined the bats, with April and Sasha scribing for them.

It was all over quite soon, and everyone went off home. At 8:30 I walked down to the meadow near the boxes and released them. All flew off quickly. Eager to get on with a little feeding time.

Very disappointing the females decided to roost else-where this month as they are either very near full-term pregnancy or have already given birth, and we don’t know which. There were two dead bats, both banded, and both females.
